Christopher D. Bodkin, Councilman
Before being elected to his current seat as a member of the Islip Town Council, he held the appointed post of Deputy Supervisor of Islip, a town of 325,000 people. Prior to that, he served as Executive Assistant to the Supervisor. His private sector experience was primarily in the field of transportation management, having advanced to the position of Operations Manager of Seaboard Shipping for Moran Towing and Transportation, New York harbor’s largest tugboat company. In addition to holding a Maritime Captain’s license, he holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Science with a major in Political Science from Dowling College.
Along with his Town Board duties, Councilman Bodkin has made himself the champion of many social causes. In particular, orchestrating the creation of a large mural, to be located in Penn Station, dedicated to the history of the Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters and their struggle to organize. He has also focused on veterans affairs and historic preservation. Among other volunteer activities, he is a member of the Board of Directors of the Long Island Maritime Museum.
His family has been a part of the Islip community for the last century. In keeping with that tradition, he lives in the hamlet of West Sayville and has two grown sons, Christian and Gregory.
