Tip O'Neill said, "all politics is local." By working on the town level, we are accomplishing several things that can only be addressed here. First; this is the way to set up an organization that can be effective in statewide and national races. Second; quality of life begins here. There is much work to be done right in Islip: environmental protection, sustainable growth and community well-being. Third; we are part of a county-wide organization. Rich Schaffer has brought our county organization a long way in his short tenure as chair and we will do our part to make the party strong in Suffolk.
We support Council Districts, which will bring more representative government to our town.
Progressive values are straightforward and clear: empathy (caring about and for people), responsibility (acting responsibly on that empathy), and fairness (providing opportunities for all and a level playing field from which to start). These are not only progressive values. These are America's values. It is time for progressives at all levels to articulate our values, fundamental American values, and repeat them proudly and consistently.
The truth is that so called "conservative values" have failed America
and are threatening the well-being of our nation.
